Our Mission

The Workforce Transformation Lab is a research initiative that brings together researchers, industry partners, and policy experts to explore how technology can connect more people to more economic opportunity. Our multi-disciplinary team investigates both the development of effective people management tools and how these technologies are implemented in real-world settings. We also consider how an individual’s experience and capability are represented in the data that flows through these tech platforms. Through its work, the Lab aims to bridge critical gaps between skill acquisition, skill visibility, and employment opportunities in our rapidly evolving workplaces.

Featured Projects

AI/SkillsTech Network: A Collaborative Community

Technology developers create better products when they have active engagement with technology users. The AI/SkillsTech Network fosters a collaborative community of tech developers, employers, and nonprofits who can support one another in practical experimentation and adoption of new technologies.

Non-Degree Credential Mapping

There is no comprehensive documentation of what microcredentials and certifications employers are actively asking for. Understanding demand can help developers of short term, skills-based credentials. Access analysis and an interactive map of what is in demand where.

Small Business Adoption of Skills-Based Hiring

There is a disconnect between the tools individuals can use to showcase their fitness for a job and the technology aimed at integrating each applicant’s skills into formalized hiring and talent management practices. This work investigates the awareness about, attitude toward and adoption of skills based talent management practices specific to small businesses.
